WFMW: Learning to sew online….

seriously.  Though I’ve done a bit of sewing here and there, all I actually “know” can be attributed to a brief stint in a quilting class ten years ago in Nairobi so when I decided to develop some ideas with fabrics I brought back from Kenya I realized I had a lot to learn.

Fortunately, there are numerous bloggers who love to teach! And, believe me, if I can make this, you can, too!

I followed this tutorial by Warehouse Fabrics Inc. and found that even I could attach piping.  I’m still in awe.

Here’s another tutorial I’ve followed recently because I had to have something to match the purse above.  The cardholder I made looks almost exactly like the Vera Bradley one I have.  And, it took almost no time at all, which is good because I have almost no time at all these days.

Here’s a little something I’m planning to make for my daughter…we’ve already got the hot pink tulle ready to go.

Oh, and don’t forget there’s always Google…a great way to find answers to all those “dumb” questions you’re too afraid to ask.  Let’s just say now I know what the numbers on my sewing machine are for…..

  1. Thanks for sharing this tip about sewing. I have just recently picked it up again as I was given a machine. So far, I’ve made 5 napkins and one apron. I want to make a cute bag though and the link to the tutorial is perfect!

    1. You’re welcome! I hope they’ll help. It is overwhelming. I’ve found it’s best to look for a tutorial that makes sense to you then go from there. After a few, you’ll get the hang of it…until you sew the purse straps backwards like I did just yesterday! At least now I know a faster way to rip seams….
