5-minute-friday-1 Five Minute Friday. Each week on Lisa-Jo’s blog, people gather to write for five minutes…no editing, just writing.  Words flowing freely.  And then, they share those words and encourage each other.  This weeks’ topic?  Here.

Here goes:

Friday morning and the kids are up early despite having one in the emergency room until after 11 o’clock last night.  You can imagine the attitudes around here this morning.  Still, they laugh and play.  The boy without a broken bone sings Swahili songs to himself wrapped in a Maasai blanket.  You’d think he’s already been to Africa.

But, he hasn’t.  His home is here.  The red clay reminds me of the dusty, dirt roads I’ve walked down a world away.  He’s heard of them so often he thinks he remembers them himself.

We snuggle up and look at picture books.  He names the animals.  English.  Swahili.  And the stuffed animals to go along.

He attempts to put puzzles together as his little sisters ramble in walkers, wrecking his work.

Here.  It is crazy.  It is loud.  It is messy.  It is home.

  1. Stopping over from Five Minute Friday 🙂
I love the scene of happy, kid-filled chaos you painted in these paragraphs!

  2. Oh, I love this! And I’m glad to meet you, my FMF neighbor. This boy without a broken bone… you’ve adopted him?

Home… messy. I’d feel right at home there. 🙂
